Description: Rare item. Must be some 40 years old. Made in Taiwan original vintage. Rare white Bengal tiger dies at Busch Gardens-published on Tampabay.com on 4 June 1990 "A stuffed animal was apparently responsible for the death of a rare white Bengal tiger Sunday at Busch Gardens. The 2-year-old male, Mwelu, drowned while swimming in the white tiger display's moat, said Busch Gardens spokesman David Conrod. Visitors reported the tiger was having trouble swimming about 3:15 p.m. When a handler and a veterinarian arrived a few minutes later, the cat had sunk to the bottom of the moat. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and the tiger was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. A necropsy found the remains of a small stuffed toy in Mwelu's upper intestines, said Dr. John Olsen, chief veterinarian at Busch Gardens. Olsen said the stuffed animal, which Mwelu probably ate three to six weeks ago, caused gallstones, which in turn caused colic. Olsen believes Mwelu drowned after suffering severe abdominal pains from the colic. Mwelu was one of 140 white Bengal tigers in the world, Conrod said. All of them have been born in captivity. The death is particularly upsetting because Mwelu was one of the first litter of cubs to be born at Busch Gardens, Conrod said." Condition: As new. Clearly never used. The is no sign of wear or wash.
