Description: I recently purchased a large military relic collection belonging to a man (now deceased) who metal detected back east in the 1980's, and also in NM, AZ and Texas after moving here to New Mexico in the 1990's, so watch my present and future auctions for alot of nice Civil War and Indian Wars dug and nondug relics from his collection. I've never seen another buckle like this. Very large, heavy duty brass buckle. One end says C.C. Lee, Patd. Other end says 27 May 1873. Researched this and found the following: Charles Carter Lee of Falls Church, Virginia, brother of Robert E. Lee, obtained this patent (#139253) for a "rigid tongue buckle". He filed for the patent on 2/13/1871. Charles died on 3/21/1871, so the patent was issued after his death. Charles was the second son of Henry Lee (Light Horse Harry-General & Lt. Col. in the Revolutionary War, 1756-1818.). In nice dug condition with patina, never been cleaned. Measures approx. 4 1/8" x 1 13/16". This was in a display case that he had marked "Fort Clark Texas". Please study the photos for condition. Great display item. Always glad to combine shipping if you win more than one auction. Thanks for bidding!
