Description: An antique Tibetan Buddhism intricately and beautifully hand carved wooden temple box. With one side having two carved dragons and the other side a phoenix bird. There are Tibetan symbols and Himalayan vegetal scrolling carved throughout. I believe this box was used for scrolls or kept on an altar. It dates to approximately the early 19th century, but possibly much earlier. It is a very old box. The box appears to be carved from one piece of wood with some piercing showing through on the dragon side (please see photos).I am not sure what type of wood this was carved from. It measures: 11 1/4 in tall (to the top of lid) x 7 in wide x 13 in long. The height of the box without the lid is 9 inches. It weighs 12 lbs. It is in good antique condition. It is very old and has expected inconsistencies relating to it's age. The only issue is there is a piece of wood on one of the top side rims which looks like it was added later? It is also very old. It sits a bit higher than the rest of the top rim which causes the lid to not sit completely flat on top (please see photos). A truly rare and unique one of a kind collectible piece showcasing the rich culture of Tibet. Please message me with any questions and thanks for looking.
