Description: Here is a small quilt top, possibly a crib or doll quilt in the Flagstones pattern, #1001, as shown in the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns compiled by Barbara Brackman. Pattern is classified as a Two-Block pattern where one block is a checkerboard. Design is also known as New Snowball and Improved Nine Patch. The top measures approximately 17" x 20" and has been cut from a larger piece. There are remnants of additional blocks along three of the sides. On the fourth side, the blocks have been cut in half. Fabrics are cotton from the late 1800's to early 1900's including cheddar, indigo blue and shirting. Top is hand pieced and generally clean, however, one cheddar hexagon has a stain as shown in the photo. Also, the nine patch next to this hexagon is missing six of the squares. Photos show front and back of the top. Item is for only the top, no other materials or instructions are included.
