PSA 4 - 1940 Play Ball #167 Frankie Frisch Pittsburgh Pirates HOF

Description: A PSA graded VG-EX 4 - 1940 Play Ball card of Hall of Famer Frank "Frankie" Frisch as a manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Frisch played 19 seasons in the majors for the New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. This is the variation featuring the SUPERMAN ad on the bottom of the card back. 1940 Play Ball set features 240 different cards highlighting active players of the day as well as many retired baseball greats. The set includes many Hall of Fame players and even a card of the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox. Card numbers 121-180 can be found with two different ads at the bottom on card backs. The first advertises the Play Ball Baseball series, while the other advertises the SUPERMAN set that was yet to be released. Some collectors are willing to pay a small premium for the cards featuring the SUPERMAN ads on the back, but most of the major price guides do not mention different values. This example has no creasing, bold printing, good centering, nice focus and clean borders. The corners are consistent with those found on most EXMT examples, with the exception of more wear on the upper left corner. There is some modest toning on both sides (not uncommon with 1940 Play Ball cards). Aside from the toning, the back is clean with bold printing.
