Description: Postcard The Australian Flagship H.M.S. Powerful In Sydney harbour c.1900 HMS Powerful with her sister ship HMS Terrible made up the Powerful Class of large cruisers. HMS Powerful was launched 24th July 1895 and proved to be an expensive ship and spent most of her time in the Royal Navy Reserve. She was renamed HMS Impregnable in November 1919 and sold for scrap on 31st August 1929. She was destined to make a reputation of great importance, for it was due to the timely appearance of a Naval Brigade from the vessel, armed with two 4.7in. Guns and four 12 pounders, that Ladysmith was saved at the outbreak of the Boer war. Measures: 5 ½” x 3 ½”. CONDITION: Not in best condition but historically important. Has been used and is tattered.
