He was a member of the Kharkiv Opera House company beginning in 1904 He sung from 1907-1915 in Odessa, Kharkiv and Kiev. From 1915 he was a soloist at the Bolshoi and Zimin Theaters in Moscow. From 1916 to 1923 he also performed in the Ukrainian towns and in the Caucusus and from 1925 to 1926, as well as 1932 he sung in the provincial opera houses of France and Italy. He returned to Russia in 1933 where he became a concert singer through 1948. There are several recordings on YouTube demonstrating a powerful voice. Large sized photographs from Soviet Russia at this point are highly unusual. This photograph signed in the usual Soviet style on the verso.
