Building commenced supervised by Mr Dick in February 1876. Building was halted in 1883 following Mr Dicks bankruptcy. Mr William McDonald bought the site and by 1886 the Atholl had opened. Francis Norrie-Miller purchased the hotel in 1911 only to sell it in 1913 to the Atholl Palace Hotel Ltd Co.
