OEM Gamecube controllers have many issues and are notorious for wearing down overtime. Some issues with OEM controllers are as follows. The thumbsticks will wear down overtime due to potentiometers going bad, which will cause issues such as stick drift and snapback. On top of that, not all Gamecube controllers are properly calibrated, which can cause issues while playing a game as precise as Super Smash Bros Melee and can lead to you hitting dead zones, failing shield drops and more. The Phob GCC removes the potentiometers and replaces them with magnets and hall effect sensors, and since the magnets don’t come in contact with anything, the controllers are built to last way longer than an OEM controller. The Phob has a built in snapback filter and on top of that, you have the luxury of recalibrating the controller, remapping buttons (mainly for Z jump), getting rid of analog triggers and more. Phobs are mainly used for competitive smash bros, but they are also a good way to future-proof your Gamecube controllers.
