Description: Past Patterns PP#00371790s Upper Petticoat Sewing Pattern This 1790s Upper Petticoat sewing pattern is an original Past Patterns design★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★The Upper Petticoat sewing pattern was created from an original in the Susan Greene Costume Collection in the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, NY. There were sufficient clues to determine that the original early nineteenth century petticoat had been refashioned by letting out the tuck and creating gores to make it fuller for the 1820s. The professional art on the cover, the documented historical notes, and the detailed instructions you have come to expect from Past Patterns are contained in the booklet that comes with the multi-sized pattern. As a bonus Susan Greene has included an article in the historical notes to guide you in choosing printed cottons by color and detail to match your social impression. Susan W. Greene is the author of Wearable Prints, 1760-1860, History, Materials, and MechanicsAll classes of society, on both sides of the Atlantic, could have worn strapped upper petticoats.★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Sizes included in this pattern – 08-26Bust Sizes 32 ½ “ – 48”Waist Sizes 24 ½ “- 40”Hips Sizes 27” – 42 ½ ”★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Both Views A & BFabric Requirements for a lady who measures 43" from under the bust to the ankle:Sizes 08-14 of original fabric width of 26" -5 3/4 Yds.Sizes 16-20 of original fabric width of 32" or 36" - 5 3/4 Yds.Sizes 22-26 of original fabric width of 45" - 6-1/8 Yds.Add or subtract 4" to fabric required for every inch taller or shorter than the 43". We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0037 Thanks for looking!
