Description: Lovely pair of antique / vintage title curtains. Set includes two curtains and two pullbacks. The scene, titled "Les Délices Des Quatre Saisons“ (The Delights of the Four Seasons) was first printed by Jouy in 1789. This lovely fabric was printed later around 1910-30 , very hard to say for sure selvedge is intact at about 32" - so older loom but also small color circles but those were sometimes used earlier on. What I can say for certain is that they are glorious! Lovely quietly linen, soft and drapes beautifully! Creamy off white linen with raspberry red to pink motif. The original selvedges are intact but sewn over. Each curtain is made from one full width and one half width seemed and well aligned together. As its name suggests, The Delights of the Four Seasons , illustrates the changing occupations and games that symbolize every season. The dance around the May tree represents spring, the wheat harvest & picnic portray summer. According to tradition, grape picking evokes autumn. This printing only uses a portion of the original imagery having omitted the sleigh gliding over the snow and a skating scenes that symbolizes winter. Wonderful ruffle along one side and bottom contrasting banding as well, banding has a bit of fade in places, adds to the charm! Please not that the the small color markings on the selvedge edge are visible along ruffle edge. This does not detract for me but wanted to make sure you noticed! Condition: Excellent no major flaws that I noteCarefully washed and hung to dry. Approximate measurements including ruffle: 36" gathered top 49" total width x 105 long. I do my best to accurately describe condition and point out major flaws, but condition is seldom perfect as one would expect from a 100 year old textile. Small marks and flaws should be expected.
