Only took a few days for them to be completely comfortable going in and out without being coaxed with treats. My husband is extremely happy I’m not just leaving the screen open anymore and letting all the flies in haha. Easy to install. A+ Solid door and good sizeI have a Boston Terrier (30lbs, about 11 or 12 inches tall) and this door is perfect. I had ordered a few other brands in the past and the ones they recommended for her size were always small, hard to install, and didn't have much sturdiness to them. This one is the best I've used by far and she actually trusts going in and out with no apprehension. Assembly isn't hard, but if you use "pet proof" screen on your door, then the clip on feature (to align before using the bolts) doesn't work well because the screen is made to not allow punctures. That was my only issue, but I simply aligned it, used a sharp pointed object to set the bolt hole, put in the bolts, then worked on gently sealing the gate onto the screen. Finished it up by tightening the bolts and it's been super sturdy since the install. The other item I like is that the bolts you use don't protrude out and snag on anything (other sliding door parts or people), which is nice. The clips to lock the door work fine for my dog as well so the door overall is pretty seamless to the existing slider. The only item I would consider a concern is the long term durability of the screen that is placed in the footprint cutout in the door. My dog doesn't scratch at it very hard and while she learned to use it there have been only light paw pushes on that middle area, but I can see it bulging a bit here and there. Will keep an eye on that over time as it doesn't look like it's ripping or anything, but I'd expect that to stay a bit more taut since it's the designated push location for the dog. Game Changer For Dog OwnersWe have had one of these installed on our patio screen door for about 10 years now. We finally replaced the original one this spring. Previous to this design we would either open and close the screen every time our dogs wanted to go out/in or we experimented with one of those screen curtains with the magnets that would supposedly open and close tight when they passed through. Those curtains were a failure and just like manually opening and closing the screen would let flies into the house which I despise. This doggy door is genius and super easy to install. The dogs will go in and out and never jump at the screen door ruining it. Our dogs are 12 and 25 pounds and egress is no issue. Training them to go through it is as simple as holding treat on the other side of it of the door. Buy with confidence! Works great!My 50 pound boxer bulldog mix, standing at about 2’ tall is using this dog door perfectly! She refuses to push through a regular door if it is cracked, so I didn’t think she would actually push the dog door. Boy was I wrong! The door is lightweight and is pretty quiet when it swings. If it were loud there’s no way she would use it. It was very easy to install and seems secure. Especially since she has a tendency to sprint through the door to chase birds. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
