Description: Edwin Parker "Cy" Twombly, Jr. (1928-2011) is a well listed American Abstract Expressionist painter, sculptor and photographer. His painterly style is best described as expressionistic, colorful, freely scribbled, symbolic and graffiti-like. In the 1940's, the artist studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In the 50's he continued his studies at the prestigious Art Student's League in N.Y. where he met the artist Robert Rauschenberg who later became his partner. In the late 50's he moved to Rome where he spent much of his later life. He is well represented in many important collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in N.Y., the Art Institute of Chicago and the Tate Modern in London. The artwork for sale is an original gouache painting that is signed "Cy Twombly" in red pencil on the back (photo 2). The artwork is on a sheet of stiff paper and it has a horizontal perspective. (photo 2). This is a smaller work of art and measures 8 and 1/2" high and 11" across. It is being sold as in the manner of Cy Twombly because there is no paperwork for provenance. Primary colors are red and yellow. Image depicts rose shaped red orbs dripping. There is no COA or any paperwork to help establish provenance for this artwork. It is being sold as in the manner of Cy Twombly based on signature, style, and aging of paper. It is a very desirable piece because it is so colorful and minimalistic. The date is unknown but probably from the mid-1960s. Item was recently won in a Miami auction.
