Beautiful Green Silk Satin Fabric with pattern-weaved in fine darker green, and densely embroidered in gold and silver silk and cotton threads making up the beautiful floral pattern. There is also a good deal applique gold gilt overlay which gives this rare fabric a three dimensional appearance. This child's short jacket dates from the last quarter of the 18th century and most likely French made! This Jacket was originally designed with no buttons, but rather 9 holes on either side of the upper front, where a fabric lace ties would have secured this snug fit on the child. Spun metal and silk lace trim going half way up the back and to the sides. No Pockets. It has angled sleeves with split cuffs . Inside of jacket has a dark stained brown cotton upper lining in nice condition. The lower portion has a blue silk satin fabric lining which has areas large missing. It appears that this little jacket may have been in the process of being repaired as there seems to be some temporary stitching around that area. In any case this really would be an easy fix for someone with period fabric and skilled at hand stitching. Besides the inner bottom lining the condition of this jacket is good to very good with one of the the underarms needing a slight repair. There are a few very small splits and some fraying and very slight fabric loss at one lower corners. No moth holes, minor soiling and as mentioned, parts of the blue inner the lining is missing. Dimensions: Length: 17.5 in. / Shoulders: 15 in. / Arms: 20in. Remarkable museum collection pieces.
