Description: Original antique color lithographed 1897 map of Charleston, South Carolina, printed more than 125 years ago. Dashed lines on the map show horse-drawn streetcar lines along Rutledge, Meeting, and Wentworth Streets, as well as a couple of others. The map shows the South Carolina Military Academy, since renamed the Citadel, and it locates the campus on Hutson Street (labeled Hudson Street on the map) — today the site of Marion Square Park (or Citadel Park) and an Embassy Suites Hotel. Among the other named places and features on the map are the Cooper River, Drum Island, Washington Race Course, Union Stock Yards, Colonial Lake, the South Carolina Railroad, Pinckney Street, Magnolia Cemetery, Baseball Park, and the Charleston Market. The map was published by George Franklin Cram of Chicago in 1897. The image area measures 33 x 24.7 cm [13" x 9¾"]. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an original, authentic 1897 map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. On the reverse side there is a street map of Birmingham, Alabama, in similar style and format. Either map would make a wonderful display in your den or office, and we'll include our helpful framing tips with your purchase, along with a photocopy of the dated title page from the book in which this map was published.
