The map traces the routes followed by more than a dozen different explorers in the early years of the 16th century, including Columbus, Vespucci, Balboa, Magellan, Cabot, Pizarro, and Orellano. Topography is drawn in relief, and there are insets of Trinidad, Easter Island, the Galapagos, and the Isthmus of Panama. The image area measures 38 x 26.5 cm [15” x 10½"]. The map was engraved by the Matthews-Northrup Company. It was published by the Century Company of New York and is dated 1897 in the legend. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with a vertical centerfold, as issued, a neatly mended chip in the lower corner, outside of the iamge area, and no marks, rips, or tears.
