Hlavsa label which shows that it is one of the circle of 10 etchings «Old Prague». Artist’s Main Feature: In historical town Kutná Hora of the provincial Bohemian born well-educated artist Jan Hlavsa (1884–1936) worked as a painter and graphic artist mainly in Prague. Not much is known about the artist in public sources. However, his works are well-known among collectors of Pragenzia. The subject matter of the artist was created by his main themes concerning Prague and its changes over time. Under the V. H. Hlavsa label, he created a cycle of ten etchings «Old Prague». The spiritual content of his work was influenced by the social consciousness of his generation mirroring the great historical events ended so-called «long Nineteenth century» in 1914 and began the period of the modern Imperialism. His real apprenticeship was passed under he famous Graphic School of Max Švabinský. From the forms of art he mastered etching, drypoint and aquatint. Hlavsa strove from the start to express reality as he objectively saw it. The main feature of Hlavsa’s realistic art is his excellent rich and refined colour range. He belongs to the Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists, whose members were and are now professional artists of the highest calibre.
