This ornament reflects the excitement That President Roosevelt, his wife Edith, and their lively young family of 6 children brought to life at the White House. The White House Historical Association began creating these collectible Official White House ornaments in 1981. The first 5 ornaments1981 - 1985 were flat, and gold in color. Starting in 1986 they were still gold in color, but had some dimension. In 1986, in addition to being dimensional, the color red was added to the gold. Each year after this the Official White House Ornaments became more unique and different colors were used to collectible ornaments.
