Description: From the private collection of KSCartist: Tim Gagnon aka "The Patch Guy." NASA Astronaut ASE 2017 Planetary Congress Rare embroidered patch. Background Information and context from the ASE website:THE ASSOCIATION OF SPACE EXPLORERSFounded in 1985 by a small group of US, Russian and international fliers, the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) is a private, international nonprofit (501c3) professional and educational organization of over 400 flown astronauts and cosmonauts from 38 nations.ASE PLANETARY CONGRESSESThe Association holds an annual Congress, attended by member astronauts and cosmonauts from around the world. The week-long event includes technical sessions featuring updates on human activities in space and briefings on future plans for low earth orbit and beyond. The attending astronauts and cosmonauts also dedicate time throughout the week, particularly on Community Day, to meet with and inspire future scientists, engineers and explorers all over the host country. My Participation: From 2015 through 2019 I was asked to manage the production of the official ASE Planetary Congress patch. My role was to adopt the official graphic for each event as the center element of a patch and incorporate the colors of each host nation Flag into the border. Each patch had text in English as it is the "official language" of international spaceflight. As is custom I ordered extra in the event patches were received with an error in embroidery. These were limited editions of 300 patches or less. I requested and received written permission from the ASE to offer these surplus patches to collectors for sale. They will no longer be made for future events. I am offering the last of the 2017 patches. In 2017 the Planetary Congress was hosted by France. When they are gone, there are no plans to re-release them.
