Description: "Tannhäuser " is an 1845 opera in three acts, with music and text by Richard Wagner (WWV 70 in the catalogue of the composer's works). It is based on two German legends: Tannhauser, the mythologized medieval German Minnesanger and poet, and the tale of the Wartburg Song Contest. The story centers on the struggle between sacred and profane love, as well as redemption through love, a theme running through most of Wagner's work. The opera remained a staple of major opera house repertoire in the 21st century. The Tannhauser Libretto was received by my Grandmother during a trip to Chicago in 1909. She watched the Opera on April 20, 1909. She included a copy of the evenings program as well as photos of cast members. They are pasted inside the cover. She attended at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. The libretto itself is intact. There is a tear on the cover. The pages seem delicate with age, lightweight and fragile but totally readable and useable. She signed and dated the cover each time she used the libretto.I offer 30 day returns, the buyer pays for return shipping.Shipping will be within 24 business hours of payment.
