Description: I have for sale a medal commemorating Bishop Matthew Simpson and the Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia. The medal is made of white metal, it is 1 3/4 inches in diameter and in very close to uncirculated condition. On one side of the medal it reads at the top METHODIST EPISCOPAL HOSPITAL - PHILADELPHIA. In the center it shows the hospital building. Below the building it reads FOUNDED BY - SCOTT STEWART M.D. - INCORPORATED 1885. Dr Stewart in 1877 bequeathed $250,000 in his will to build the hospital. The other side at the rim reads BISHOP MATTHEW SIMPSON - FIRST PRESIDENT OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES 1882 & his raised bust is in the center. Simpson was a Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
