Description: Memoirs of the Life of Sir Walter Scott, 1888 J. G. Lockhart. Hardcover. The Chandos Library. Publisher: Frederick Warne & Co, London, 1888. Used. Detailed biography of the Scottish novelist and poet, Walter Scott, written by his son-in-law. A new edition "revised and condensed". Still a lengthy work at 749pp but handier than the original "seven large volumes". Black leather/ cloth edition, issued by the Burnley Co operative Society library, with associated library stamps, especially near the beginning of this extremely old and interesting volume. A larger sticker identifying the library's rules has been pasted to the inside front cover. See photos. Binding is quite weak, along a leather spine which has fallen away over the years. The text is complete and still joined along the spine however, but the pages are dirty and faded, especially at the page ends. Some mild water stains can be seen near the beginning. * A b/w photo signed by Walter.Scott can be found opposite the title page. Signed "Yours Truly Walter Scott". The substantial reduction in price for this rare volume, would allow any earnest scholar or collector on Scott's life and work, to perhaps have the book re-bound? It certainly deserves it! C
