Description: Medieval 14th Century Sugarloaf Armor Crusader Knight Helmet with Stand Pre-owned in good condition-see pictures for details Beautifully hand crafted, this miniature mini sugarloaf helmet with stand would make a wonderful present for those interested in medieval history. The sugar loaf helmet was named as such because of the similarity the shape had with 'sugar loaves' which is what sugar was traditionally sold in. The sugar loaf helmet was a later variant of the Great Helm, and it was used throughout the 13th and 14th Centuries. The helmet is most associated with the crusades and the style saw use in may famous battles of the period. The addition of a domed top was an improvement on the Great Helm, as the domed shape was better at deflecting blows to the head compared to the flat topped Great Helms. Dimensions: height 8 in (on stand), width 3.5 in (on stand), weight 14.3 oz Handcrafted in steel and brass and comes complete with a wooden stand. While steel helmets are polished, any items with moving pieces will scratch as the steel parts move over each other, this is inherent with all such similar items and is not a fault
