Urbain Cassan, born in Narbonne on Mars 12, 1890 and died in the 14th arrondissement of Paris on April 4, 19791, is a French polytechnic architect.BiographyAfter studying at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the École polytechnique (class of 1911), Urbain Cassan began his career at the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord. He participated in the reconstruction of the network after the First World War with chief engineer Raoul Dautry. He made him his advisor during his time at the Ministry of Armaments in 19392.He initiated an investigation launched in 1941 (called “intellectual project 1425”) on rural architecture in France led by Georges-Henri Rivière as part of the National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions2.In 1944, the same Dautry appointed him general director of construction at the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning. He was consulting architect for Electricité de France between 1946 and 1955 and was appointed chief architect of civil buildings and national palaces in 19532.He was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1965, replacing Paul Tournon.
