Description: Model Die Casting - MDC - Roundhouse - Undecorated Side and End Extensions3 each for the 30' (shorty) Flat Cars. Here we have 3 sets of freight car extensions made by MDC. These are the same parts found in their kits to convert the shorty ore cars into high side wood chip cars, turn their 30' flat cars into low sided gondolas, among other things. Honestly these parts have many uses, let your imagination see what you can make. They can be used to make an old flat car into a maintenance of way car, see the photo for an example. Also, see the provided copy of the MDC instructions for directions and ideas in using these parts. See *note at bottom. Modelers Tip: If you want to give these sides a wood grain appearance, we use a razor saw blade scrapped along the sides until a proper grain effect is achieved. This can also be used to help hide those pesky molding marks on the parts. Look at the Arizona Southern ore car in the photos. This was one of the first ones we did this way, circa 1988, so these parts go back a long ways. The other unmarked cars are more recent, all photos of models are shown as examples only and not part of this offer. When adding grain to the "wood" we suggest that you practice on some scrap plastic first and then go for it, and don't forget to do all exposed sides. We find having one coarser and one finer toothed blade being used gives a better result. Have Fun! This OFFER is for three part sets like those pictured in the first photo.
