One of the most significant catastrophes they had to deal with was the conflagration of the ancient castle in 1920, when their resourcefulness prevented the castle from being totally destroyed. In 1973 Burg became part of the town of Solingen and its volunteer fire brigade was integrated into the larger Solingen Fire Brigade. This 1932 Mercedes-Benz Type L5 diesel truck was equipped with a 22 meter turntable ladder constructed in three sections. Extremely effective in rescuing people from tall burning buildings, this fire truck is a legend in the annals of fire fighting history.
