Description: Safety Mark Murphy was enshrined into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1998, after a memorable 12-season NFL career with Green Bay that lasted from 1980 thru 1991. Offered here is a beautiful home green Packers jersey which was made for Murphy's use. Manufactured by Sand Knit, the shirt features the style of double-tagging in the tail found on Packers gamers of the mid 1980s. In addition, two unique small tags that were specially produced just for Packers game shirts are also found inside the neckline (I'd love to know whose idea it was to add those). The original "MURPHY" nameplate is sewn securely across the back. A further customization is found on both sleeve bottoms, where the ends were bottlenecked to securely fit Murphy's upper arms (a solution before spandex sleeves were common). This style of jersey, with the "G" helmet logo placed on the sleeves, was used by Green Bay from 1984 thru 1988, right in the middle of Murphy's career. I was surprised to search eBay and not find a single game jersey available featuring this style. Tagged as a size 44, the garment measures approx. 23 inches across from pit to pit, while the body itself is approx. 22 inches across. The length is approx.34 inches from the top of the shoulder to the bottom hem. The jersey shows little or no use, which at least makes this jersey team-issued. Murphy was famous for his hard hits, so if he wore this it was likely for a game where he saw little to no action. Quality Packers jerseys are very difficult to find, as an eBay search will reveal. The Packers are arguably the most collected team in the NFL and certainly have one of the most dedicated fanbases. This jersey would be a very welcome addition to ANY Packers collection, and is a rare chance to grab a unique jersey made for one of Green Bay's most celebrated backfield players.
