Description: These specimens are Periodical Cicadas of Brood XIII, also called Pharaoh Cicadas because of the sound they make, from the genus Magicicada, a type of cicada that emerges from the ground on either a 13 year cycle, or, as is the case with these Brood XIII specimens, a 17 year cycle. The insect's wings are open, making for a stunning display piece. Native only to the United States, this Pharaoh Cicada is a must-have for any entomology enthusiast. The intricate details of the insect's body and wings are sure to impress, making it a great addition to any collection. Each specimen is unique and will differ slightly from specimen to specimen. This is partially due to the fact that Brood XIII is composed of four different species and partially due to the fact each individual insect is different even amongst its own species based on the conditions it endured during its 17 year maturation underground. I cannot reliably identify each specimens species as some species can only be determined through genetic testing and/or slight frequency variations in their mating song that are not discernable to the human ear. This listing is for one spread specimen. Each specimen is chosen at random. Photos above have been included to show some of the possible variations in specimens.
