THEY ARE REALLY OUTSTANDING.] This PRINT is about 80 years old and guaranteed to be original. It’s an original ILLUSTRATION from the aforementioned book, and NOT A MODERN REPRODUCTION. The print is 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". Matted the print measures 8" x 10". This is a standard size mat that will fit into a standard size frame—no costly custom frames required. ABOUT LYND WARD Lynd Ward, born in Chicago in 1905, studied art at Teachers College, Columbia University, graduating in 1926. Shortly after graduating he and his new wife, moved to Europe for a year. While in Europe he attended the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts where he was exposed to the work of Hans Alexander Mueller, Frans Masereel and the German Otto Nuckel, the last two of whom were exploring ways of telling stories with pictures and no words. That year and those artists had an indelible impact on Ward and his career. His first work upon returning to the US was Gods' Man in 1929, a work without words. That book was a huge success and was in its third printing in 1930. Other Ward novels in woodcuts followed: Mad Man's Drum, Wild Pilgrimage, Prelude to a Million Years, Song without Words, and Vertigo. Lynd Ward died in 1985.
