Description: In 1946 Lowry made numerous visits to Glasgows thriving dockyards by train from his Swinton & Pendlebury home.Fascinated by the enormous yards on the East and West banks of the River Clyde and it's huge cranes and the shipbuilding he would sketch numerous works that would be taken back home and completed in his home bedroom in 1947 using his favourite oil on canvas. Look to the top left and you will see the Finnieston Crane.Lowry didn't obviously know at the time he was painting into his work one of not only Glasgows, but Scotlands most historic piece of marine past which is still on show as a heritage display in Glasgows centre.See picture in images of the crane today, with a little piece of Wikipedia information. The print is set in a 32 cm X 27 cm antique style frame from our Hembury range. Thank you for your interest.
