A solid copy of this uncommon copy, an unusually earnest first novel about the New South, as personified by Roland Droch, the protagonist who is foiled in his attempt to live a godly life by the machinations of the "evil and profane Judge Whitlow, his mistress and his scapegrace son." It cannot be said that this novel is an overlooked 'Gone With The Wind,' or anything close to it in terms of literary achievement, but there is a raw and painfully honest voice in this text, struggling to be heard.
