Littlehip Hawthorn | 5 Seeds | Crataegus Spathulata | Florida Native Tree | Wild

Description: Littlehip Hawthorn Crataegus Spathulata5 Seeds The Hawthorn tree's grow natively all over most of our farms. Most people will rip them out right away because the spikes are terribly long & sharp! When the leaves fall off in the winter-time, the branches look like what went around Jesus' head during crucifixion. It will put a hurting on you when walking by. Also, it tends to flatten the tires of lawn mowers & tractors. We love our many hawthorn trees and haven't taken 1 out! Some of our older trees are over 30 feet tall!! The many white flowers in the springtime smell so sweet! We love walking around the paths smelling the scent in the breeze. Many bees & butterflies love to visit the blooms. When the flowers are done, little green fruits will start to appear. Throughout summer they will get larger and start to turn a yellow / red color. They look like little apples!! The fruit has really no flavor, kind of bland actually. The Hawthorn berry is used medicinally, but be careful if you take blood thinners. Also, like cherries, the seeds contain cyanide. Be sure to not eat them!! Leaves of the hawthorn tree can be eaten. It's said that there is enough vitamins, minerals & flavenoids that humans could survive solely on the leaves. We pick and eat a few leaves every time we pass by a hawthorn tree with fresh leaves. The younger leaves are pretty tender while the older ones seem to be pretty stiff & hard to chew. The leaves taste pretty bitter, but they are tolerable. Most bitter things are really good for you. This is the first year we have picked the fruits as we are usually too busy with Saw Palmettos this time of year. Well, we found the time to harvest quite a few to offer the seeds for sale. These seeds were harvested July 2024 Seed Starting Pack your patience! These seeds will take about 1 year to germinate. Seeds sown in Fall will sprout the following Fall. Seeds sown in Spring will sprout the following Spring. Many people report the seeds sprout about the same day as being sown (365 days later).
