LIONEL 1952 Vintage LEFT REMOTE CONTROL SWITCH NO. 1122E - O-27

Description: Remote Controlled O27 Gauge Switch No. 1122 was first issued in 1952 and would replace the No. 1121. The reason for this change was to incorporate the non-derailing feature that had been used on the O22 Switch. The first issue of the No. 1122 differed from the later issue in several respects. The switch motor housing has five notches, and the outside curved and straight rails contained the insulated sections needed to operate the non-derailing feature, but no insulating track pins were required to utilize this feature. NOTE: These switches would scrape the center fuel tank on the EMD F-3's which Lionel began to issue for use on O27 Gauge trackin1955. There are two variations of this switch: Variation A: The directional indicator lanterns on the switch machine have exposed lenses. Early 1952 production. Variation B: The directional indicator lanterns on the switch machine have recessed lenses. Late 1952 production. In 1953 Lionel would redesign these switches to accommodate the larger F-3 diesel engines. These switches are marked "MODEL 1122(E)" on the galvanized bottom, and have three notches on the control housing which has been rounded at the corner that is closest to the curved section of the track. Also, the insulating sections of the tracks have been moved to the smaller inside rails and insulating pins are required to use the non-derailing feature of these switches. These switches operated better than the previous issue and would be produced up until the end of the Post War Period in 1969. When these switches were sold in pairs they included a single remote controller with levers for each switch, lanterns, and power and insulating track pins. There are two variations of the No. 1122(E): Variation A: The switch points are fastened to the drive rod by a clover shaped rivet. Variation B: The switch points are fastened to the drive rod by a small round shaped rivet. These switches were also sold individually from 1955 until 1969 under the No. 1122LH Left Hand Switch, and No. 1122RH Right Hand Switch. Both of these switches came with a single O22C Controller. Note: the lights in the controllers will not illuminate when used with these switches. There are two variations of each of these switches: Variation A: As described above and came in an Middle Classic, Late Classic, or Orange box. Variation B: Came in blister packs under the No. B1122LH (Left Hand Switch) and No. B1122RH (Right Hand Switch). Produced only in 1966.
