Description: Limoges Elite Bawo Dotter Platter Serving 11 3/4" X 8 1/8" Pink Floral 1900-1914 Elegant Decorative Hand Painted SERVING TRAY 11 3/4" by 8 1/8" from ELITE WORKS (Bawo & Dotter) Limoges, France, Sprays of PINK & WHITE FLOWERS & GREEN LEAVES w/Center Garland Medallion, Scalloped & Embossed Rim, circa 1900-1914 DESCRIPTION: The decorative tray was manufactured, designed, and decorated in the Elite Works Studio. The designer of the decoration was most talented. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The center medallion consists of a circular garland of petite pink and white flowers with their green leaves. This is surrounded by sprays of the same daisy like flowers. The rim of this deep platter is scalloped and embossed. CONDITION: While this decorative tray is classified as used, its condition is superb. The only issue is a very small, flat nick on the back of one handle and an even smaller nick on the back of the other handle. See photos #11 & #12. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The platter is 11 3/4" by 8 1/8" with a height of 1 3/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The green mark on this plate is the underglaze white ware mark #5 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used 1900-1932. In addition, an overglaze decorating red mark is from The Elite Works and was used from 1900-1914. This mark incorporated Saint Martial from the seal of the City of Limoges and the mark is #9a (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Gaston).
