G. Lockhart - John Gibson Lockhart (1794-1854), with a Prefatory Letter to the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone (William Gladstone) by James R. Hope Scott, Q.C. It was published by Adam and Charles Black, of Edinburgh, in 1871. Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (1771-1832) was a prolific Scottish historical novelist and poet popular throughout Europe during his time. His most famous titles are “The Waverley Novels” including Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of The Lake, Waverley and The Heart of Midlothian. The book measures 7.75 inches x 5.5 inches x 1.3 inches and has 837 pages, which are hand-cut to the top rims. The book is in good, neat condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little grubby/faded to the original cloth hardback cover, with a little foxing near the covers (tear to side of page 837). There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages. There is no dust-jacket. A wonderful VICTORIAN edition.
