Libidibia Coriaria 15 Seeds, Caesalpinia Divi Divi, Small Tree Bonsai Shrub

Description: Libidibia CoriariaAlso known as: Caesalpinia coriaria, Divi-DiviThe species was first described by Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin in 1763, as Poinciana coriaria. In 1799, Carl Ludwig Willdenow transferred it to the genus Caesalpinia, and in 1830, Diederich von Schlechtendal transferred it to his newly created genus Libidibia. The genus Libidibia was not always accepted and the species was usually placed in Caesalpinia, until molecular phylogenetic studies led to the reinstatement of Libidibia. Now that we got that out of the way.....This species is a leguminous shrub or a small tree native to the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, northern and western South America. It has a rounded, spreading crown and it usually grows up to 10 meters tall, but can be much taller. The bole is short and seldom straight; it can be up to 35cm in diameter. The evergreen tree is especially prone to wind-training in exposed areas, giving rise to increasingly picturesque specimens with flat-topped crowns and leaning trunks. Can be grown as a bonsai. The bipinnately compound leaves are finely textured and can reach up to 6" long. The small, yellow-green flowers are held in dense, 2" long panicles and are not considered showy. The flowers are followed by twisted, 2-3" long pods that contain small, glossy brown seeds. It has been used in Central America for many centuries as a tanning material and its cultivation spread to several other countries, particularly India. It is grown as an ornamental in many parts of the tropics and is sometimes still cultivated for its tannins. It tolerates a wide range of climates, thriving in dry, warm temperate climates to wet tropical climates. Tolerant of a wide range of well draining soil types, including rich clay and sandy soils in full sun to part shade. Hardy in frost free Zones 10 and above. This offer is for 15 seeds. For complete transparency we include payment processing & Ebay fees in our shipping/handling cost.*DISCLAIMER*NO RETURNS/REFUNDS/REPLACEMENTS ON SEEDSMost specialty seeds we offer are NOT fast to germinate. Many take several weeks, months, and some even up towards a year depending on dormancy, region, season etc. It is important that the buyer understands that seeds are perishable products and seed germination can be adversely affected by such factors as mold/fungus, bugs, temperature, moisture content, light intensity, dormancy, care, contamination of planting media among many other reasons. These factors are totally out of The Plant Attraction's control and are the buyer's responsibility and risk. Germination recommendations are sent with each order and the buyer is free to research and use their own methods. Floating seeds do not always indicate that the seed is not viable. Many times it is a misconception because the seed does not have the density to sink in water. Accordingly, The Plant Attraction does not guarantee seeds to perform properly regardless of conditions or buyer's methods or mistakes. Since 2006 we have been doing our best to hand sort and provide the freshest, cleanest harvest that is free of defects and bugs.
