I certainly appreciate your writing me and I am looking forward to hearing from a classmate about contributions. I will gladly contribute $1,000 as you suggest, and perhaps probably more, by 1965. With every good wish.” Unfortunately, Kennedy would be assassinated one year later. The attendees of the Class of ‘40 1965 reunion dedicated its 25th anniversary report to Kennedy and created a memorial scholarship fund in his name for undergraduate students at Harvard. “MANY THANKS FOR YOUR LETTER CONCERNING THE 25TH REUNION IN JUNE 1965. I CERTAINLY APPRECIATE YOUR WRITING ME AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM A CLASSMATE ABOUT CONTRIBUTIONS. I WILL GLADLY CONTRIBUTE $1,000 AS YOU SUGGEST, AND PROBABLY MORE, BY 1965.” Sent to Kennedy’s classmate and famed lawyer Douglas Mercer while operating through Wadsworth House on Harvard campus, contains one page on White House letterhead, measures 8.875 by 6.75 inches, created in Washington, DC on November 8, 1962, and in near pristine condition with only a small fold and staple holes to the top left corner.
