Description: Vintage tightly woven Tlingit or Eskimo made berry basket. Surely made in the late 1800’s to turn of the century, which is early for anything in this condition used for utilitarian purposes by the indigenous peoples of Alaska. There are remnants or orange and black pigment in geometrical designs throughout the basket. Appears to be made from beach grass and cedar bark. I’m assuming this is for berries, but could also be used for clams or herring with the filtration holes throughout the midsection. In excellent condition with no issues, damage or soiling.
