Description: Up for sale is a large antique map Plate of a view of Central America showing location of Resources and Industries, Plate 82, Commercial Map #8. Large view of New Zealand. Authority for topographic data from Rand, McNally & Co., Indexed Atlas of the World 1894. It measures approximately 28 x 21. It is blank on the back. The Plate comes from The Report of the Isthmian Canal Commission, 1897-1901. This report was commissioned to develop the best route and plan for the construction of the Panama Canal. The Plate is a rare example of the publication of this work. The report was published by the Government Printing Office circa 1903. Overall the Plate is in good condition. Some light browning and staining around the edges. One small tear in the top left edge, but does not affect the print. Some small dark specks across the map. Several creases down the middle where it was originally folded when bound. Some small stains toward the top right corner, but does not affect the print. Will look very nice framed. Note also that while I have included a picture of the List of Plates from the original book it is not included in the sale as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for several other plates.
