Lagunaria is an evergreen tree in the Malvaceae family. A native to Australia from Lord Howe Island to Norfolk Island and also parts of coastal Queensland. Common names include Primrose Tree, Norfolk Island Hibiscus, Pyramid Tree, Queensland White Oak, Sally Wood, and White Oak. It grows to 30 feet tall and maybe 20 feet wide once mature. The soft flowers range in colors from white to a light rose to a mauve in late spring until mid-summer. The leaves are oval with olive green on top and gray on the bottom. It is adapted to live in seaside conditions. It likes to be in full sun but can take part shade as well. It can grow in most soils but will require it well-drained. Zones 9-11 Germination Scarify seeds with a nail file. Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
