Description: This 'Lackawanna Coal Company', 'Miners Certificate' is probably a reproduction (it was purchased in PA in the early 1990s). This is a Certificate which was issued by a 'mine foreman' to a miner who completed required instruction for work 'as an anthracite miner in the Slope 190 Mine, Scranton, Pa.' The back of the certificate has the 'Rates Paid 1902'. The certificates were originally printed by Allied Printing, Trades Council, Union Label in Scranton. The 'Miners Certificate' is on a parchment-like 5 3/4" x 10" piece of paper. The Certificates an in like-new, unused condition.
