Description: Title: "I Found the Pass" 20x30 image Artist: Jerry Crandall Date Published: September, 1979 Paper: Art print paper, 100% rag, acid free Print No.: 297Signed & Numbered: 500 The Artist: Jerry Crandall is descended from a stage coach driver and was raised near Bent's Fort on the Santa Fe Trail. He was a member of the world famous Koshare Indian Dancers and is active in The Brotherhood of American Mountain Men. He has been a consultant on the filming of Michener's "Centennial" and Heston's 'Wind River." He is uniquely qualified to paint the Mountain Men of the Old West with feeling and realism. He is represented in prominent private and museum collections. The Painting: Symbolizing the epitome of freedom and independence, the mountain man, in search of beaver, also blazed passage ways for future generations to venture west. High in the Rockies, this small party of trappers seeks the best route through the mountains. The mountain man in the foreground, having scouted ahead, has excitedly wheeled his horse yelling, "I found the pass!!" He is clothed in a Hudson Bay blanket coat called a "capote" and is waving a half stock Plains riffle signaling the others to join him. On his horse is a Santa Fe saddle along with a Mexican bit and headstall. It was men of this adventurous spirit who represent some of America's greatest heroes.
