"Discovering Nagata Yuji, Unsung Maike Master" NTRODUCTION:This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Discovering Nagata Yuji, Unsung Maike Master" at Miho Museum in 2019. The Edo period craftsman NAGATA Yuji was a unique maki-e artist who created beautiful maki-e works and signed his work to indicate that he was the successor to OGATA Korin. However, his career is shrouded in mystery. As research on him has progressed in recent years, this exhibition was held with the intention of collecting, organizing, and exhibiting as many of his works as possible and uncovering new historical materials.The catalog includes approximately 70 maki-e works by NAGATA Yuji and two essays by IWAI Tsugio, a researcher on NAGATA Yuji.
