Description: Early 20th century impressionist scene of 2 children at the breakfast table by Frederick James Boston (1855-1932), listed New York/Connecticut artist, oil on canvas, 20" by 18", signed lower right, period carved silver/black frame, 25 3/8" by 23 3/8". Artist was known for genre scenes, studied with John Barnard Whittaker in New York and Carolus-Duran in Paris. He was first art instructor at Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, President of Painters' and Sculptors Club, one of the founders of Brooklyn Art Guild, and exhibited at Brooklyn Society of Artists and Salmagundi Club. Painting is in good restored condition, has been lined, shows stable craquelure to darker areas, especially right lower quadrant, scattered minor inpainting; frame shows age-related wear and touch-up of tiny corner chipping.
