Description: Imperial German Navy sailor's cap S.M.S.GNEISENAU-East Asia Squadron- Tsingtao White cotton sailor's cap with ribbon S.M.S.GNEISENAU and metal cockade. Dated 1910 from the Wilhelmshaven clothing depot, the year GNEISENAU left for Tsingtao and it's station in the German East Asia Squadron. GNEISENAU was sunk in 1914 during the Battle of the Falkland Islands along with almost all of the East Asia Squadron while attempting to return to Germany after the outbreak of the First World War. The cap and ribbon are in very good condition, with age yellowing to the cotton fabric, with one small mark and staining on the top, and small areas of paint loss to the brass naval sew-on cockade. Missing chin strap. Note on shipping: Ebay requires a signed for receipt for items over $750. Hence the $3.50 above the priotity mail shipping cost.
