I do not use stock photos or photos of other people’s items.This is an original H M Quackenbush "Vindex" Nutcracker made in Herkimer New York. The history of these is illusive. Sellers just put "1940s" in their listings but I could find no patents or ads or other references to when these came about. Quackenbush invented the original hand held cracker with spring mechanism in the early 1900s and sold over 200 million. He died in 1933. I found one or two with their original blue and yellow boxes using the brand name "Vindex". The second to last photo is one of those, not included. But wait, Vindex was actually a brand of the National Sewing Machine Company which included cast iron toys and, nut crackers. See their box and T Bar nut cracker in last photo, not included. National Sewing was founded in the 1880s. In the Great Depression 1930s they turned to additional products to keep their staff busy. This included their new "Vindex" line. Most were made prior to 1936. Their Vindex line of toys and novelties was discontinued in 1938. Maybe that is when the Quackenbush company picked it up. Who knows? Significant flaws not depicted in the photos are described here-with, minor flaws and normal wear are not. Unless the item is described as new, assume there will be minor flaws or wear commensurate with a used item of given age.
