I wanted to tie an accurate match the hatch type fly for alewives. I studied photos for months trying to decide how to do that. Alewives show at least four different colors which explains why the are a couple groups of colors which make effective fish catchers. I tried incorporating all 4 colors in a layered fly and it came out messy. Ultimately I developed an effective but tedious method to streak the colors instead of layering them so the fly comes out more like living fish. This is a new addition to the Alewife series called Pickled Alewife Glow. It’s a standard Pickled Alewife with an added glow layer.
