Aradus/Arados (modern Arwad, Syria) was a fortress-city founded in in the 2nd millenia BCE by Phoencians on an island roughly two miles from the ancient port city of Tortosa. This coin includes Phoenician lettering, a wonderful example of the alphabet developed in the 1st millenia BCE which ultimately gave rise to both the Greek and Latin alphabets.
