The great Northfield Raid is recorded while Native American Indians are removed from the Black Hills after gold is discovered. Baseball's National League is begun and the first no-hitter is pitched. There are race riots in South Carolina and Stanley is in Africa. Rutherford Hayes (R) and Samuel Tilden (D) are nominated for president. What a year!
