The single Our Father is a Blue Adventurine, and the ten Hail Mary beads are Picture Jasper, the perfect stone for this carpenter saint because it has markings that often resemble wood grain.Comes gift boxed and with a St Nicholas Owen prayer card, Pardon Crucifix card, carry pouch, a gift bag and tissue paper, How to Pray the Rosary pamphlet, Divine Mercy pamphlet, and more. If you have favorite saints or devotions, send me a message when you purchase and if I have that prayer card(s) I will include it.Nicholas Owen, a Jesuit lay brother, bravely traveled to various houses and manors in England to build hidden places for priests to escape the authorities who would often raid Catholic homes. If found, the priests as well as those living in the home were subjected to torture and execution. Nicholas was a skilled carpenter and devised ingenious ways to make the "priest holes" so well that even today, not all of them have been found. He knew how to make the hiding places, sometimes even creating a fake hiding place to put the searchers off the real one. He worked at night by candlelight, and during the day he worked as a travelling carpenter to avoid suspicion. People referred to him as "Little John" instead of his real name, and he also used other aliases. He even assisted in the escape of a Jesuit priest from the Tower of London. Nicholas was of short stature, had a hernia, and was partially crippled due to a broken leg that was never set properly. After 18 years working long hours under difficult circumstances, he was arrested and tortured in the Tower - first by hanging from his wrists and then on the rack - but he refused to reveal the location of the priest holes he had built or the families involved. The tortures caused his abdominal hernia to eviscerate and hemorrhage and he died quietly in the night of March 2, 1606. He was 44 years old. St Nicholas Owen was canonized in 1970 and joins the many English saints who suffered during the persecutions of the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. A brave and inspiring saint! The prayer cards which come with our rosaries and medals are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on my computer and printed in full color on high quality paper. Although they ae not like the usual, smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint of Catholic devotion.
